Playing multiplayer in Pokémon Pokopia can be quite the fruitful experience, especially if you’d much rather complete the Pokédex and start ambitious building projects with the company of your friends. Or perhaps you just want to play Prop Hunt and wish to try and fool your friends as Graveler. It’s all possible in Pokopia, which has two distinct multiplayer modes for you to try.
Here’s how to play Pokopia multiplayer, including how to have others visit your world, how to create and use Cloud Islands, and everything you can or can’t do in both multiplayer modes.

How to play Pokémon Pokopia multiplayer
There are two ways to play Pokopia multiplayer with friends: you can invite friends to your island and visit their islands, or you can alternatively all collaborate on a Cloud Island (these are very different from Dream Islands). Cloud Islands are completely separate to yours or your friends worlds and all players involved can access them at any time.
We run through how to play both multiplayer modes below, as well as what you can and can’t do during each mode.
Playing multiplayer in your world
If you’re looking to invite friends to your world in Pokopia or alternatively visit their worlds, there’s a few things to bear in mind.
The first is that you cannot play through the game’s story together; only the host will be able to advance any Requests and they can do this while other players are present. You can also speak to another player’s Pokémon and even try inviting them to visit your world, but as previously mentioned, you won’t be able to advance any Requests on behalf of the host.
There are also strict limits when it comes to building and decorating with friends in your world or their world. While another player is visiting you or you are visiting another player, you won’t be able to pick up items, destroy blocks, or use the following abilities: Rock Smash, Rototiller, Cut, Leafage, and Water Gun. You can, however, use the Fly, Magnet Rise, Camouflage, and Rollout abilities.
Last, but not least, if you have a Pokémon following you before travelling to another player’s world, they’ll come with you!
Housekeeping out of the way, let’s talk about how to invite other players to your Pokopia world:
- Interact with a PC and select ‘Link Play’.
- Select ‘Invite Others to Visit’ (and don’t worry if the game says you’re currently offline).
- Select ‘Online Connection’ if playing long-distance, or ‘Local Connection’ if playing using the same WiFi network.
- In the Settings now, choose whether to display your Link Code, whether to enable Spectator Mode, and how many players you wish to invite.
- Press the plus button (‘+’) to confirm your settings and open your world to other players.
- On the following page, you can view your Link Code, which you need to give to any player you wish to join your world.
Here’s how to join another player’s world in Pokopia:
- Interact with a PC and select ‘Link Play’.
- Select ‘Visit a Friend’ (and don’t worry if the game says you’re currently offline).
- Select ‘Online Connection’ if playing long-distance, or ‘Local Connection’ if playing using the same WiFi network.
- Input the Link Code given to you by the player you’re visiting.
- Confirm that the Cloud Island shown to you on the next screen is correct, then off you go!
Playing multiplayer on a Cloud Island
Cloud Islands are where you and your friends can go about building a town and completing the Pokédex – again – together. Here, you’ll be able to use all of your abilities and do everything that you’d otherwise be able to do in your own world, but alongside friends. Think of it as a fully functional, multiplayer Palette Town!
As a result, all Cloud Islands are completely barren to begin with. That means no Pokémon or decorations, and you won’t be allowed to bring any inventory from your own world with you. So, you’ll need to use everything you’ve learnt in Pokopia so far to gather resources, build habitats, and attract new Pokémon together. The PC will continue to have challenges for you and your friends to complete together, and any items in your pockets when you leave a Cloud Island will be stored in the PC.
On top of that, while a Cloud Island needs a host, this does not have to be the same host and you can swap hosts at any time. Let’s say there are four players and the hosting player wants to log off; they can simply switch the host to another player and leave the Cloud Island.
Similarly, once you’ve visited a Cloud Island once, you can visit it again whenever you want – even if the original host isn’t online – provided you have the Cloud Island’s Address and Link Code. However, Pokopia players can only create one Cloud Island at a time. If you wish to create another, you must delete your old Cloud Island or ask someone else to create it for you.
With the above in mind, I also want to mention that you should be very careful who you invite to your Cloud Island. If you have things that are of value to you or some builds you’ve spent hours upon hours on, it’s not wise to invite anyone you do not know to your island. All it takes is a cannon or rogue use of the Rollout ability for someone to destroy your hard work, so be wary of who visits your island and vice versa!
Here’s how to set up and join a Cloud Island step by step in Pokopia:
- Interact with a PC and select ‘Link Play’.
- Select ‘Play on a Cloud Island’.
- Select ‘Create a new Cloud Island’.
- Choose to ‘Generate a random Cloud Island’ or ‘Generate via magic number’ if you have a Cloud Island seed to use.
- Choose a name for your Cloud Island.
- On the Settings page next, establish your Link Code settings, choose whether to share your Cloud Island with others, and choose whether to enable Virtual Mode (which prevents actions of other players from being saved).
- Press the plus button (‘+’) to confirm your settings and create the Cloud Island.
- Share the Cloud Island Address (and Link Code if you’re using one) with any players you want to join you.
Here’s how to join a Cloud Island in Pokopia:
- Interact with a PC and select ‘Link Play’.
- Select ‘Play on a Cloud Island’.
- Select ‘Search for a new Cloud Island’.
- Enter the Cloud Island Address given to you by the host.
- Enter the Link Code, if one is set, and you’ll then join the Cloud Island.
