In Crimson Desert, you’ll have many kinds of transportation options, such as travel, jetpacks, dragons, and more. One of the earliest ones involved riding your horse.
You’ll receive one horse near the beginning of the game by default, and you’re able to ride it throughout your entire journey. However, if you want more horses, you can definitely tame them out in the wild.

Where to find wild horses in Crimson Desert
Wild horses don’t appear in any one location in particular, but you can find them all over the wild in Crimson Desert. You’ll likely spot them randomly while going about your journey.
You’ll have to sneak up on them, though. If these wild horses spot you, they’ll run away. So it’s best to try and corner them somewhere so you can get close.
How to unlock taming in Crimson Desert
In Crimson Desert, you don’t have to unlock a particular skill to tame a horse. Though you’ll be introduced to horse taming around Chapter 6 as part of the main story, and a tutorial will pop up explaining how to do so.
However, you can tame horses pretty much any time that you want to, even as soon as the beginning of the game if you come across a wild horse. So you don’t have to wait until Chapter 6 in Crimson Desert in order to tame horses.
How to tame wild horses in Crimson Desert
When you get close enough to a horse, interact with it just like how you would if you wanted to ride your own. Press the ‘Ride’ button prompt that appears (E on keyboard, X on Xbox, Square on PS5).
This will take you into a mini-game where the wild horse will try to shake you off like a mechanical bull. In order to successfully tame it, you’ll need to fill a gauge by pulling back your left thumbstick (on a controller) in the opposite direction the horse is facing.
This is entirely based on where your camera is positioned. So for example, if the horse is facing the left, pull your left thumbstick to the right. Be careful though, you don’t have forever to tame it. Once you run out of stamina, the horse will kick you right off. Increasing your stamina levels gives you more time to try and tame wild horses.
One trick to successfully tame a wild horse is to adjust the camera angle, since the mini-game is based on that. When the horse faces a different direction, use the right thumbstick to shift your camera behind the horse so that it faces upwards. That means to fill the gauge, you would pull back the left thumbstick in the opposite direction, which is down.
By doing this, you never have to think about which direction to pull, and can keep holding the left thumbstick down indefinitely until the horse is tamed. You only need to adjust the camera angle with your right thumbstick.
After the horse is tamed, the game will show you its stats, and you’re given three options:
- Register and ride.
- Register and send to stable.
- Ride.
