In Crimson Desert, you can pickpocket and steal belongings from most NPCs, but you’ll have to pay if you get caught. Pickpocketing is also a bit of a tricky process (and you can even steal from cabinets and drawers), but we’re here to help.

How to start stealing in Crimson Desert
There’s only one real requirement needed to steal or pickpocket in Crimson Desert, and that’s to wear a mask. This will let you engage in criminal behavior!
A mask can be obtained in a variety of different ways, such as drops from defeating bandits, but the easiest way is to visit the Back Alley Shop near Hernand. Speak to Grimrak there and he’ll have a mask for sale. It only costs 10 copper pieces so it’s very inexpensive.
Once you equip it, you’re ready to start pickpocketing and stealing.
How to pickpocket in Crimson Desert
With the mask equipped, you must run into NPCs in order to pickpocket them. Normally, when you walk up to an NPC, you’re presented with options like ‘Greet’ and ‘Gift’. However, when you bump into them, the ‘Pickpocket” option appears.
Remember that you have to run and bump into them for the pickpocketing option to appear. You’ll usually obtain some copper pieces or a few common miscellaneous items upon doing so.
However, pickpocketing isn’t without its consequences. Depending on what city you are in, you’ll lose a small bit of Contribution. For example, pickpocketing in Hernand results in a -5 hit to your Hernandian Contribution.
Additionally, everyone will be suspicious of you, and a threat alert will appear at the top left of your screen, as well as a red zone surrounding you. You’ll want to exit the red zone so you don’t suffer any additional penalties other than a fine.
There are a few other restrictions it seems. When the surrounding area is under a threat alert, you won’t be able to pickpocket anyone else, as everyone is now aware that you’re pickpocketing. Also, it seems like you can’t pickpocket guards, only regular NPCs.
How to steal in Crimson Desert
Stealing in Crimson Desert is a much more straightforward process. With the mask equipped, you simply need to walk over to a cabinet, shelf, or anything in public and open it. Once it’s opened, you’ll have the option to steal whatever’s inside. There are objects out in the open that can be stolen too. Just make sure that the ‘Steal’ button prompt appears and you should be able to steal it.
Stealing also has the same consequences as pickpocketing. This includes a small hit to your Contribution levels, and some other NPCs will look at you suspiciously. It also seems like it doesn’t even matter if anyone is around to witness you stealing.
Even if the action is performed without any witnesses, a crime threat level notification pops up in the top right corner of your screen and a red zone appears around you. As the same with pickpocketing, make sure to exit the zone to get rid of the threat alert.
