In Crimson Desert, the main character in the game is Kliff, but there are some other playable characters that you can use to explore the gargantuan open world. In total, there are three total playable characters available for you to find and unlock.
Here are all playable characters in Crimson Desert and how to unlock them.

How to unlock Kliff in Crimson Desert
Kliff is the leader of the Greymanes and his goal is to reunite his clan to take down the Black Bear Clan after their leader, Myurdin, almost decimated them. He’s the character you’ll primarily be using throughout the entirety of Crimson Desert and fight most of the bosses with. He’s the all-rounder of the trio.
In order to switch characters, you need to bring up your quick slot wheel (up on the direction pad on a controller, and F1 on keyboard). Then, just move your cursor to the character and select them.
In Crimson Desert, you can also summon the other playable characters to help fight alongside you when doing side content. In main missions and story bosses however, they won’t join. Additionally, there are certain times during the story where they won’t be available for summoning.
How to unlock Damiane in Crimson Desert
Damiane is the second playable character you’ll unlock in Crimson Desert. She’s also a member of the Greymanes and is a more agile fighter than Kliff, specializing in dual blades.
She’s unlocked as part of the story, appearing in Chapter 3: Howling Hill, during the quest, ‘A Fresh Start.’ In this quest, you’ll need to switch over to Damiane to complete some odd jobs around Howling Hill.
How to unlock Oongka in Crimson Desert
Oongka is the third playable character that you’ll unlock in Crimson Desert. A Greymanes member himself as well, this giant orc won’t be playable until you’re approximately 30 to 40 hours into the game, depending on how much time you’ve spent exploring the open world or just following the critical path.
He is unlocked as part of the story too, appearing in Chapter 7: Homecoming, during the main quest: ‘Twisted Fate’.
When Kliff, Damiane, and Oongka are all unlocked, there are still two remaining mount slots in the quick slot wheel. It’s currently unknown whether they’ll be used for upcoming playable DLC characters, or if there are still others waiting to be found in the game itself. Crimson Desert is absolutely massive, so we’ll keep you updated if and when we find more.
