Pokémon Pokopia Yawn up a Storm! walkthrough

‘Yawn up a Storm!’ is one of the Important Requests you’ll be completing in the Withered Wastelands of Pokémon Pokopia.

If you want to free Onix from the cave it’s trapped in, you’ll need Slowpoke’s help to make it rain. This means increasing Withered Wastelands’ humidity until Slowpoke can make a 100 point yawn! Just remember to get Slowpoke first by making the ‘Seaside Tall Grass’ habitat. You can find the details for this habitat in our Pokémon Pokopia Habitat Dex.

With that out of the way, let’s take a look at our ‘Yawn up a Storm!’ walkthrough for Pokémon Pokopia.

The ‘Yawn up a Storm!’ Important Request begins after you help Slowpoke reach the Pokémon Center by placing steps and wetting the path to make it walkable. Since Slowpoke can only manage a 70 point yawn at the moment, you need to increase the humidity of Withered Waves if you want to make it rain.

This Important Request is divided up into a series of sub-requests. The Pokémon offering these requests will have a speech bubble, typically orange, above their heads. Depending on how you’ve spent the opening hours of Pokopia, you might have already met the requirements for completing some of these requests. It’s also possible to complete the requests in a slightly different order to the one I’ve taken below.

Just remember to always talk to a Pokémon after you’ve completed their request or else it won’t be ticked off your list!

Here’s how to complete the ‘Yawn up a Storm’ Important Request in Pokopia:

  1. Spray water on the dried grass and dirt until Professor Tangrowth has a speech bubble above his head then talk to him.
  • You may have already met the requirement for this task, so feel free to proceed with the requests below. Yet, if you hit a roadblock, just try using Water Gun on the dried landscape until Tangrowth is ready to talk to you.
  • Complete Slowpoke’s request relating to the spring water. These are the blocks which have little water droplets leaking from them. Once smashed, they release a blocked torrent of water. There are three to find and you may have already smashed them:
    • One is found on the right-hand side of the tutorial area.
    • A second is located in the same area of the Pokémon Center. Follow the wall behind the Horsea fountain to your left.
    • The third is found by smashing through the rumble directly to the right of the Pokémon Center. You’ll find a dried up pond in this area. Climb up the cliffside next to this pond to find the block.
  • After doing the above, talk to Slowpoke about the fountain.
    • If this request doesn’t automatically complete, then smash the third block listed in the previous point and the others blocking the flow of water to the fountain.
  • Talk to Squirtle and make the ‘Hydrated Tall Grass’ habitat by growing four Tall Grass by a water source. (Just make sure you don’t do this by the sea – that’s a completely different habitat!)
  • Invite Squirtle to live in the ‘Hydrated Tall Grass’ habitat.
    • You can do this by asking Squirtle to follow you, taking it to the habitat and then selecting the ‘Wanna move in here?’ option when talking to it.
  • Talk to Bulbasaur and make the ‘Field Of Flowers’ habitat. This habitat requires eight Wildflowers.
    • It’s a good idea to take Bulbasaur with you like it suggests as Bulbasaur can instantly grow the Wildflowers if you decide to use seeds. It will also speed up completing this request.
  • Talk to Bulbasaur again and water some trees until another speech bubble appears above this Pokémon.
  • Continuing watering the ground until Slowpoke has a speech bubble above its head saying, ‘I’m sorta drowsy…’. At this point, go and talk to it.
  • Talk to Squirtle to start its subrequest about making the ‘Rain Dance site’ habitat. This habitat requires two Castform Weather Charms (Rain) and one Plated Food. Before making it, you first need to:
    • Talk to Professor Tangrowth.
    • Return to Professor Tangrowth’s cave and take the Castform Weather Charms from his wheel barrow.
    • Set up the ‘Rain Dance site’ habitat wherever you like.
  • Return to the Pokémon Center and talk to Professor Tangrowth.
  • Head down to the pier on the beach near the tower where you began the ‘Do the… Team Initiation Challenge’ Important Request.
  • Fix the pier until you can reach the end.
  • Talk to Kyogre.
  • Return to the Pokémon Center and talk to Professor Tangrowth.
  • Congratulations! You’ve completed the ‘Yawn up a Storm!’ Important Request. Now you’re free to go through both the eastern and north-western Area Gates in Withered Wasteland. The eastern gate takes you to Bleak Beach, while the north-western one leads to Rocky Ridges.

Personally, I recommend heading to Bleak Beach where you’ll complete the ‘Brighten things up!’ Important Request as it will teach you the electricity mechanics, which will be helpful throughout your time in Pokopia. Though you can always head to Rocky Ridges for the ‘Time to party!’ Important Request instead.

You could also stick around Withered Wasteland a little longer to increase the Environment Level to 5 or rebuild the Pokémon Center.

Best of luck exploring the world of Pokopia! If you’re looking for more Pokopia assistance, check out our guides on the Pokédex, Habitat Dex, Mystery Gift codes and how to get Lumber.
