The ‘Do the… Team Initiation Challenge’ Important Request begins early on in Pokémon Pokopia.
Yet, Ditto and Professor Tangrowth’s investigation into the mysterious tower in the Withered Wastelands will take them a little longer than they thought it would. Especially since whoever built the tower wants items from across the locations in Pokopia.
Don’t worry though, our Team Initiation Challenge walkthrough for Pokopia will help you complete each challenge

Pokopia Team Initiation Challenge walkthrough
The Team Initiation Challenge Important Request begins shortly after you’ve found the trapped Onix in Pokopia. You’ll know when you can start it by how Professor Tangrowth will leave his post outside the Pokémon Center and instead be standing in the area where you did the tutorial.
Talk to Professor Tangrowth and he will ask you to break down the wall of rumble in the cave in front of him. Doing so will lead to a beach with a mysterious tower standing on a platform.
Head over to the tower to interact with it and you’ll find yourself in a Team Initiation Challenge! (I wonder what team we’re joining… It’s such a mystery…) To complete this Important Request, you need to complete seven challenges. Personally, I would recommend leaving this to be one of the final things you complete in Pokopia as it will be easier to do.
So let’s run through how to complete each challenge:
Challenge 1
First challenges are always easy, so you only need to collect:
You can easily collect these berries by using Headbutt to knock them down off trees. You’ll earn the Bouldery Badge for your efforts.
Challenge 2
The second challenge requires:
These are all crops you can either find growing or grow yourself. Beans can be found throughout every location and you can purchase their seeds early on in Pokopia. Meanwhile, you’ll have to venture into Bleak Beach for Tomatoes and Rocky Ridges for Wheat.
You’ll earn the Cascade-like Badge for finishing this challenge.
Challenge 3
For this third challenge you will need:
You most likely know how to get Lumber by now! Fluff, meanwhile, can be obtained from Pokémon like Mareep and Swablu. These Pokémon are known for being fluffy and have the Litter Speciality, so will leave it lying around their habitat. Paper is obtained by giving Wastepaper to Pokémon like Trubbish who have the Recycle Speciality.
For completing this challenge, you’ll earn the Thunderish Badge.
Challenge 4
For the fourth challenge you will need:
- 40 Bricks
- 20 Gold Ingots
- 50 Concrete
We’ve got a whole guide covering how to get Bricks. Meanwhile, for Gold ingots, you’ll need Gold ore and a Smelting Furnace. Try visiting a Dream Island if you’re running low on Gold ore! For the Concrete, you need to head to the Sparkling Skylands. Here you’ll learn how to make a Concrete Mixer and Concrete itself.
Congratulations! You’ll earn the Rainbowish Badge for completing this challenge. (Looks awfully similar to my favourite badge from the Kanto region…)
Challenge 5
The fifth challenge requires:
- 50 Electricity
- 10 Crystal Fragments
- 5 Tinkagears
Let’s get the easy stuff out of the way first. If you don’t have the Tinakgears to hand, then give Tinkmaster in Sparkling Skylands two Iron ingots and wait for them to be made. Crystal Fragments can either be found on a Dream Island or in the mines of the Rocky Ridges. You will have to go deep into those mines to find the blue crystals and eat a Hamburger steak to power them up, but these are easy to collect.
The electricity, meanwhile, is more complicated. I’ll walk you through how I did it, but you may find a different method works better for you.
Firstly, I turned off the Mini floodgate at the bottom of the waterfall near the tower to get the water flowing again. Then I made the pond after the floodgate wide enough to fit a Waterwheel kit. After this Waterwheel was built, I set up two Utility Poles to connect it to the tower. This generated 20 electricity.
Since it wasn’t enough, I then built a Furnace close to the Utility Polls and made sure it was filled with materials, so it would burn for the maximum amount of time. With that done, I met the required electricity! Again another method, like building a Windmill, might work better for you.
With that done, you’ll have completed the challenge and earned yourself the Soul-like Badge.
Challenge 6
For challenge six you need to hand over:
- 4 Industrial Beds
- 4 Resort lights
- 4 Office desks
Starting to feel like our good nature is being taken advantage of guys…
The best way to complete this challenge is to make the furniture yourself. This will be easy if you already have the materials to hand, but you may have to go out and do some gathering. You can also find some Office desks in the Sparkling Skylands if you do want to save some materials.
Here’s all of the materials you’ll need to make all of the furniture in total:
- 8 Iron Ingot
- 8 Fluff
- 8 Lumber
- 4 Iron Ore
- 4 Vine Rope
- 4 Sea Glass Fragment
- 8 Pokémetal
Here’s a break down of what you need for the individual furniture:
| Furniture | Materials | Total for 4 |
|---|---|---|
| Industrial bed |
|
|
| Resort light |
|
|
| Office desk |
Once you’ve somehow managed to push all of that furniture down that small slot (good on you Ditto), you’ll be rewarded with the Marshy Badge.
Challenge 7
Challenge number seven requires:
- 1 Washing machine
- 1 Refrigerator
- 1 Game Boy system
A Game Boy? What cruelty is this! I’m telling you right now, if you asked young Lottie to chuck her Game Boy Colour into a mysterious slot it would definitely not happen. In fact, it wouldn’t even happen today. You can pry my purple Game Boy Colour out of my cold dead hands.
This is the hardest challenge so far and not just due to the Game Boy aspect, but because there’s a chance you can’t craft these items at the moment. Don’t worry though! There’s actually a way you can obtain these items for free and get their crafting recipes at the same time.
This method is completing the ‘Raise the Environment Level’ Important Request in Bleak Beach, Rocky Ridges and Sparkling Skylands by reaching Environment Level 5 in each location. Now if you haven’t done that yet, it’s time to head back to those areas and start raising some Comfort Levels. (If you do have them, now is the time to either craft them or remember where you put them.) Once you’ve got all three items, head back to the tower and slot them in.
Here’s a quick rundown of where you get each one:
- Bleak Beach – Washing machine
- Rocky Ridges – Refrigerator
- Sparkling Skylands – Game Boy system
Just remember to talk to Professor Tangrowth after reaching Environment Level 5 to activate the cutscene to get these items.
In return for your precious Game Boy system, and some other less important stuff, you’ll get the Volcanoey Badge.
Challenge 8
Finally you need the following for challenge eight:
After such a difficult challenge, we end on an easy one. All you have to do is submit a photo to the slot. For a reason I won’t disclose, I recommend picking a photo you like!
Congratulations! You’re now part of the team and have earned yourself the ‘Earth’ Badge.
Yet, despite now being a team member, your work isn’t done. Now you need to supply two Party poppers.
To get Party poppers, you need to complete the ‘Raise the Environment Level’ Important Request in the Withered Wastelands. Doing so will net you two Party poppers. Though, if you’re not like me and haven’t been carrying around the same two Party poppers for nearly the entire game, you can purchase the recipe for the PC for 1,000 Coins.
Here’s what you need to craft one Party Popper:
So that’s two Paper and two Vine rope for two Party Poppers.
I won’t spoil what happens after you deliver the Party poppers, but I do recommend doing some exploration.
