PS6 9 Shelf Price Is ‘Still Possible,’ Says Trusted Hardware Insider – PlayStation Universe

While Sony Interactive Entertainment has yet to officially announce the PS6, hardware insider KeplerL2 has taken to NeoGAF to weigh in the possible price of the new system, saying a $699 price tag is “still possible.”

My current BOM estimate for PS6 is ~$760, so I would say $699 is still possible with a reasonable subsidy. The question is if Sony will even bother now that Xbox is not direct competition anymore,” they wrote.

There’s been a lot of speculation about the price of next-generation consoles lately due the rising manufacturing costs, such as the ever-swelling price of RAM. In regard to a release date for the PS6, KeplerL2 previous stated that Sony is targeting a 2027 release for its new system, and while there have been murmurs of a delay to 2029 or beyond, fellow hardware tipster Moore’s Law is Dead feels this won’t be the case.

Sony is reportedly looking to release the PS6 alongside a handheld companion, which Moore’s Law Is Dead believes the format holder is preparing for with the use of the PS5’s Power Saver Mode. The architecture for Sony’s next-generation is set to be powered by AMD as part of a partnership with Sony known as Project Amethyst.
