Knowing how to transfer Pokémon from Home to Pokémon Champions is incredibly useful if you want to use a specific powerful Pokémon or an old favourite. After all, you don’t want to leave those Pokémon relaxing in a comfortable box do you? Though you should take a look at the transfer rules before picking your Pokémon to send over. First, however, you need to link Pokémon Home to Champions.
On this page:
How to link Home to Pokémon Champions
Both the Nintendo Switch and Mobile Device versions of Pokémon Home can be linked to Pokémon Champions. It also does not require a Premium Pokémon Home membership (yay).
Here’s how to link Pokémon Home to Pokémon Champions:
- Open Pokémon Home.
- Sign into your Pokémon Home account (if needed).
- Select ‘Pokémon Champions’ from the bottom right-hand corner.
- Confirm the details of your Pokémon Champions account by pressing ‘Yes’. (Both your Trainer Name and Support ID will be displayed).
- Afterwards, you’ll be sent to the ‘Transfer Pokémon’ screen. More on that in the section below!
It’s important to note that the above steps will only work if you’re using Pokémon Home version 4.0.0. Home should do this automatically when you attempt to start it, but it is possible to force the update if it doesn’t.
If you’re using the Mobile Device version of Home, then the exact process will be specific to your device. Though it’s worth checking whichever app store you downloaded Home from to see if the update option is available.
For the Nintendo Switch version, press the Plus Button (+) and scroll down to ‘Software Update’. Here you’ll be able to select ‘Via the Internet’ and your console will begin downloading the update. You can also see which version of Pokémon Home you’re currently using by looking in the top left-hand corner.
How to transfer Pokémon from Home to Champions
Here’s how to transfer Pokémon from Pokémon Home to Pokémon Champions:
1. Link Pokémon Home and Pokémon Champions.
I’ve covered these steps in the section above, so take a look there! It’s important to note that you will have to complete these steps every time you wish to transfer a Pokémon to Champions.
2. Select the Pokémon you wish to transfer.
Now it’s time to select the Pokémon you wish to transfer over to Pokémon Champions!
Select your chosen Pokémon, ensuring they have an orange tick mark icon, before pressing the Y Button to ‘Send for a visit’. (That means transferring them to Champions.)
Next, agree to the warning messages by pressing ‘Yes’. After doing this, you need to accept the Pokémon in Champions before you can send any more over.
Sadly, there are a number of rules governing which Pokémon you can and can’t transfer over to Pokémon Champions. This means you can’t just transfer over every Pokémon you have. I cover these rules in more detail further along in this guide, but thankfully Home does give you a heads up on who you can’t send over.
Typically Pokémon with a stop sign icon (red circle with a line through it) in the top left-hand icon of their icon can’t be sent to Champions. Some untransferable Pokémon don’t have this icon though. If you select one of these Pokémon, then you’ll receive a message about how this Pokémon cannot be sent to Champions.
3. Collect the transferred Pokémon in Champions.
Now it’s time to head over to Pokémon Champions, so boot that game up. To collect your transferred Pokémon, you need to:
- Select ‘Recruit’.
- Select ‘Collect from Pokémon Home’.
- Choose ‘Collect from Pokémon Home’ a second time, but on a different screen.
- Finally, select ‘Yes’ followed by ‘Ok’.
Congrats! These Pokémon can now be used in Champions. Depending on the Pokémon you’ve transferred, you might even be rewarded with some free goodies.
It’s worth noting that the final screen (the one you’re looking at on Step 3) allows you to send Pokémon back to Home too. This is very useful if you’re accidentally transferred the wrong Pokémon.
How to transfer Pokémon from Champions back to Home
No longer want to have a certain Mon in Pokémon Champions? Then don’t worry, you can always transfer them back to Home.
To transfer Pokémon from Champions to Home, you need to:
1. In Pokémon Champions
- Select ‘Recruit’.
- Next, select ‘Send Back to Pokémon Home’.
- Select the Pokémon you wish to transfer back to Home.
- Press the X Button and confirm the details for your Pokémon Home account. (Your Trainer name and Support ID will be displayed.)
- Select ‘Yes’.
2. In Pokémon Home
- Select ‘Pokémon Champions’ from the bottom right-hand corner.
- Go through the dialogue as your Pokémon are placed back into a Box within Home.
And with that, your Pokémon are back in Home. Now you can either keep them safely stored here or transfer them to another game. (Maybe even back to Champions if the mood takes you.)
Pokémon Champions transfer rules
There’s a set of rules you need to pay attention to when transferring Pokémon to and from Champions using Home. Here they are copied verbatim from the Pokémon Champions website:
- Only Pokémon that appear in Pokémon Champions will be able to visit from Pokémon Home.
- Pokémon obtained in Pokémon Champions cannot be sent to Pokémon Home.
- Pokémon can only be sent to a game through Pokémon Home if they appear in that game.
- If Pokémon brought over as visitors know moves that cannot be used in Pokémon Champions, you’ll need to change those moves via training.
- Training underwent in Pokémon Champions won’t carry over to Pokémon Home, but if the same Pokémon visit Pokémon Champions again, any training they received will be saved.
- If a visiting Pokémon leaves Pokémon Champions and then returns in a different form, the results of any training that Pokémon had undergone in Pokémon Champions will be lost.
Always keep these rules in mind when transferring Pokémon between Home and Champions. As you can see, they not only control which Pokémon you can transfer across but can have an effect on a Pokémon’s stats (mainly removing any training in Champions). Keep this in mind if you’re planning on using a Pokémon outside of Champions.
