Pokémon Pokopia is a brand-new spin-off in the Pokémon universe that’s exclusive to the Switch 2 console only. However, those who own Pokopia can GameShare with owners of the original Switch console and experience multiplayer together that way.
GameSharing this way means that the Switch 2 owner will be streaming their game on the original console for the second player, so you’ll want a strong internet connection and to ensure neither console strays too far from one another. To help you get going however, here’s our guide on how to GameShare Pokopia, which explains how to play Pokopia on Switch 1.

How to GameShare Pokémon Pokopia on Switch
To Gameshare Pokopia with an original Switch console, you’re going to need three things: an original Switch of course, as well as a Switch 2 console that has the Pokopia game installed on it.
You’ll also need all three of these things to be within the same room as one another. Switch 2 owners can only GameShare their games locally with other nearby consoles that are connected to the same WiFi network. You will not be able to share your games – Pokopia included – wirelessly online with friends.
With housekeeping out of the way, to GameShare Pokopia with a Switch 1 user, you must do the following:
- Launch Pokopia on the Switch 2 console.
- On the Switch 2, go to the PC, select ‘Link Play’, and ‘Invite Others to Visit’.
- Select ‘Local Connection’, then select the user who you wish to host the session.
- On the Switch 1 console (or whichever console you wish to receive the GameShare), select the GameShare icon from the console’s main menu.
- Select ‘Join GameShare’ and then select ‘Local User’. The console will now search for local GameShare sessions to join.
- Once the Switch 2 Pokopia session appears, select ‘Join GameShare’.
- Once you have successfully joined the GameShare, the host (the Switch 2 that has Pokopia installed) can press ‘Start’ to begin the session.
When using GameShare to share Pokopia with an original Switch console, it’s also worth noting that the Switch 1 player will be invited into the Switch 2 player’s world to play the game in multiplayer. If the Switch 2 player then ends their session at any point, the Switch 1 player’s session will also end and they will not be able to access the game until the Switch 2 player uses GameShare with them again.
