Fortnite Save The World Is Going Free-To-Play On April 16 For PS5, PS4 – PlayStation Universe

Epic Games has announced that Save the World, Fortnite‘s third-person survival shooter, is adopting a free-to-play model from April 16, 2026, the developer has announced.

Fortnite: Save the World was originally released in Early Access for PC, PS4, and Xbox One in July 2017, and while it was meant to launch as a F2P game in late 2018, Epic ditched these plans and instead adopted a pay-to-play model in June 2020. Save the World initially supported micro transactions for the purchase of in-game loot boxes, although this was later dropped after the release of Fortnite: Battle Royale in favour of V-Bucks.

The synopsis of Save the World sees 98% of the Earths’s human population mysteriously disappearing, with survivors soon discovering zombie-like creatures known as husks are being dropped by the chaotic, stormy skies above. Players are put in command of one of the survivor bases across the globe, and must locate resources, survivors and allies to expand the storm shield — a device used to clear the storm clouds overhead — and return Earth to normal.

In terms of platforms, Fortnite: Save the World will be available as a F2P game on PS5, PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, NVIDIA GeForce NOW and Amazon Luna.
