A report on Insider Gaming has revealed that Crystal Dynamics, the studio responsible for the next two entries in the Tomb Raider franchise, is working on a new The Lord of the Rings game.
This is believed to be completely separate from the rumoured The Lord of the Rings game in development at Warhorse Studios. One interesting point about the Crystal Dynamics title is that it has received nearly $100 million funding from the ADIO, and has been in development for a while now. When asked about a release window, sources told the site the game was still “a bit away.”
Embracer Group was asked about the project and said it does not comment on rumours and speculation, while Crystal Dynamics refused to comment on the topic.
Reports about a new The Lord of the Rings game emerged last September via Insider Gaming, who claimed that the Abu Dhabi Investment Office had put nearly $100 million into the project. Yesterday’s report about the Warhorse Studios Lord of the Rings game suggested this was the game that had received the funding, but it now appears it was the Crystal Dynamics title.
