Sony’s Rumoured PS6 ‘Canis’ Handheld GPU Is Reportedly More Powerful Than Xbox Series S – PlayStation Universe


The long-rumoured PS6 handheld, dubbed Canis, reportedly packs a more powerful GPU under its hood than the Xbox Series S, according to reliable hardware tipster Kepler_L2.

The leaker has claimed in a NeoGAF post that the PS6 Canis handheld memory is “a bit ahead” of the Xbox Series S in raster, while “massively ahead” in terms of ray-tracing and path tracing. They also touched on PSSR3 when asked how it compares to Nintendo Switch 2’s upscaling, stating “Switch 2 only has DLSS 2 (CNN) and some games even use worse ‘DLSS Lite.’ FSR3/PSSR3 will be better IQ than even current DLSS 4.5.”

Sony is reportedly looking to launch the PS6 handheld alongside the main console as less-powerful companion device, with Kepler_L2 having previously stated that the device will utilise shader binary compatibility in order to run PS5 games, although these titles may require a patch to run smoothly. Fellow hardware leaker Moore’s Law Is Dead later claimed that this portable device will be more powerful than the Xbox Ally X and Nintendo Switch 2, and includes a MicroSD slot, 16CU RDNA iGPU closed at ~1.20GHz in handheld mode and ~1.65GHz in Docked Mode among other specs.

Recently there has been a lot of speculation about the price of the PS6, and Kepler_L2 has weigh in on this topic earlier this week, stating that it’s possible the system made retail for $699. However, at this price they speculate that the PS6 will only include a 1TB SSD and no disc drive, but will keep game sizes down with neural texture compression.
