The Last Of Us Has A ‘Few Stops That Remain On The Road Ahead,’ Says Neil Druckmann – PlayStation Universe

Naughty Dog bigwig Neil Druckmann has revealed in an Instragram post that there’s still ‘a few stops that remain on the road ahead’ for The Last of Us, although whether that means a full-fledged third instalment in the franchise or something else remains a mystery.

Druckmann made the comments in regards to stumbling across his original sketches for what would eventually become The Last of Us while cleaning out his garage. Here’s what he had to say:

Cleaning out the garage today and stumbled on my original sketches from 2003 for a game pitch about a man, his surrogate daughter, and a trek across a broken America. Been a wild journey. Grateful for every part of it, especially the few stops that remain on the road ahead.

The Last of Us Part III has long been speculated to be in the works at Naughty Dog, even though we know the Sony-owned studio is busy working on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Back in February 2024, Druckmann revealed during the Grounded II: Making The Last of Us Part II documentary that a third entry has a concept of sorts, noting “it does feel like there’s probably one more chapter to the story.”

Conversely, speaking with Variety in March of last year, Druckmann said “don’t bet on there being more of ‘The Last of Us.’ This could be it.” Fast-forward to September 2025, and speaking with Variety’s Jennifer Mas, the Naughty Dog executive admitted the team thought about moving straight onto The Last of Us Part III before settling on making Intergalactic instead.
