There are 27 Mysterious Slates hidden across the world of Pokémon Pokopia and collecting them all will earn you an excellent reward.
First, however, you need to know where to find the Mysterious Slates as you might not actually have one yet. After this, it’s time to learn how to use the Mysterious Slates as each one is part of a puzzle you need to solve. Luckily, I’ve got the Mysterious Slate puzzle solution ready to go down below in case you’re stuck!

All Mysterious Slate locations: Where to find Mysterious Slates in Pokopia
Mysterious Slates are found by breaking the gold glowing blocks you can find across Pokopia. This does mean that Mysterious Slates don’t have a set location, because the gold glowing blocks change location every day.
Despite this, I have been already to confirm that Mysterious Slates can be earned from gold glowing blocks in the following locations:
- Withered Wastelands
- Bleak Beach
- Rocky Ridges
- Sparkling Skylands
- Palette Town (or the name you give it)
- Eevee Doll Dream Island (Wasteland)
You may be able to get Mysterious Slates on the other Dream Islands, but I wasn’t able to find one before I had completed my own collection.
I also recommend searching for the slates at night if you can as the glowing gold blocks will be easier to spot.
After breaking a golden block, a Mysterious Slate will appear as a small bag with three question marks ‘???’ above it. Any item you haven’t picked up before will also have these question marks, but, the further you get into the game and more gold glowing blocks you break, the more these question marks will indicate you’ve found a Mysterious Slate. This is because all 27 of the Mysterious Slates are considered unique items, so they always have question marks.
The downside, however, is that due to the random nature of the items found via the gold glowing blocks it will take you multiple days to find all of the Mysterious Slates unless you’re really lucky. Remember – you need to find 27 of them!
I highly recommend keeping all of your Mysterious Slates together in the same Storage Box. Don’t be like me and leave one in a random Storage Box. This only leads to you forgetting where it is and having to visit every Storage Box you’ve used to find it, which isn’t fun at all. Trust me.
Once you’ve completed the Mysterious Slate puzzle, you’ll start finding duplicates of the slates which are perfect for decorating! Don’t worry, you won’t receive duplicates until you’ve first found every individual slate.
How to use Mysterious Slates in Pokopia
To use the Mysterious Slates in Pokopia, you need to be in the Withered Wastelands. Once there, head north from the Pokémon Center. This will either take you to a wall of rubble or, if you’ve already knocked it down, a passway to the area containing the northern Area Gate and two Waterwheels. Don’t go any further though, we need to stay in the tunnel.
On the left-hand side of the tunnel, you’ll be able to see another pile of rubble. The exact location is closer to the northern Area Gate than the Pokémon Center. Use Rock Smash to destroy these blocks and uncover a seat of stairs.
Head down the stairs and you’ll find a mural depicting all of the Unown – the Pokémon which take the shapes of the alphabet, an exclamation mark and question mark. Each of the letters Unown have their own space on the mural, while the exclamation and question mark Unown share a space.
If you look on the back of a Mysterious Slate, you’ll find a picture on an Unown which corresponds to a spot on this mural. You now need to place that specific slate in said spot. Once you have them all, you’ll get a mythical reward!
Though, if you need a little hand with the puzzle, I’ve got the solution right for you in the section below…

If you’re having trouble finishing the mural, then just use the above image as a guide. Personally, I recommend getting all of the Mysterious Slates in your inventory and holding the X button as this will automatically sort them into the correct order! This will even work if you’ve already placed some slates on the mural.
As you probably tell from the image you’ll create, your reward is Mew.
Best of luck collecting every Mysterious Slate in Pokopia! If you want to go legendary hunting, then we’ve also got guides on how to find Mewtwo, Entei, Suicune and Raikou. There’s also a complete Pokédex and Habitat Dex awaiting you.
