Pokopia Dream Islands rules explained

The main rule to remember with Dream Islands is that you can only visit one island per day, but you can visit your chosen island multiple times within this day. Each island has three specific materials it focuses upon, but you may find others, like berries or Copper Ore, during your exploration as well.

Due to these rules, it’s a good idea to either base your island choice around a material you’re running low on or one you’re planning to use for future projects. You might even find a doll which will send you to an island with a whole new material! There are also Human Records hidden on Dream Islands and furniture to ‘borrow’, so make sure you explore them fully.

How to visit Dream Islands in Pokopia

To visit a Dream Island, you first need to get a doll. After doing so, place the doll wherever you like if it’s in your storage or simply interact with it if it’s already in the overworld. You will then be asked if you want to call for Drifloon, so select ‘Yes’.

Don’t worry if Drifloon is currently in a different area to you as it will always arrive no matter where you summon it. After being summoned, Drifloon will continue to hang out in this location until the next day when it will return to its home.

After you’ve called Drifloon, it will show you the materials available on the Dream Island connected to the doll. If you fancy giving this island a visit, select ‘Yep! That’s fine!’ Drifloon will then fly Ditto away to this Dream Island! If you don’t fancy visiting this Dream Island, then Drifloon will simply fly away.

Now you’re free to explore the island, but, if you want to return back to your previous location, talk to Drifloon again. Remember – you can only visit one specific island per day, but can make the trip multiple times.

How to unlock Dream Islands in Pokopia

Before you even start collecting dolls, you first need to unlock Dream Islands in Pokopia. Thankfully, this can be done very early on in the Withered Wastelands!

Step one involves finding Drifloon. To do this, you need to either smash through the wall or climb over the cliffs directly west of the Pokémon Center in the Withered Wastelands.

Once you’re on the other side, you’ll easily be able to spot Drifloon floating near the seashore. To be exact, Drifloon is on the path leading down to the beach. Head over there and talk to Drifloon twice. During your second conversation, it will ask you to build it the Riding warm updrafts habitat.

The Riding warm updrafts habitat consists of three Campfires. Since each Campfire costs one Sturdy Stick and one Stone to make at a Workbench, you need three Sturdy Sticks and three Stones to make all three.

After making these Campfires, go and find Charmander as you’ll need its help to finish the habitat. With Charmander following you, find a nice place for Drifloon’s habitat and place the Campfires down. Charmander will now light the Campfires for you, completing Drifloon’s habitat! Now you just need to tell Drifloon.

When Drifloon arrives at its habitat, it will gain a speech bubble saying, ‘Uhhh… No humans, huh?’ Time to talk to Drifloon again and this time it will ask you to get it a doll. Once you have a doll, talk to Drifloon again. Do not place the doll in Drifloon’s habitat, the doll needs to be in your bag. With that conversation done, congratulations! You’ve unlocked Dream Islands!
