Uncharted 5 Was Reportedly Considered At Naughty Dog Pre-COVID – PlayStation Universe

Naughty Dog was planning to work on Uncharted 5 prior to the coronavirus pandemic, according to reliable industry insider Tom Henderson.

Henderson made the comments in the lates episode of the Insider Gaming podcast, although there’s no word yet on whether or not the project is still in the pipeline. Naughty Dog is currently working on Intergalactic : The Heretic Prophet, and up until a few years ago was working on The Last of Us Online, so it may have put Uncharted 5 on hold or has another team still working on it.

Henderson’s comments about Uncharted 5 come from an image that surfaced recently about Naughty Dog potentially doing research a new game in the series. “This isn’t the first time that Naughty Dog have floated with the idea of Uncharted 5,” said Henderson, adding that there “was some planning of an Uncharted 5 before COVID.”

The Uncharted franchise launched for the PS3 in late 2007 and the last entry was Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, which launched for PS4 in 2017 as a spinoff featuring Chloe Frazer instead of Nathan Drake as the main protagonist.

Way back in 2020, Naughty Dog executive Neil Druckmann said during a playthrough Of The Last of Us alongside actors Troy Baker, Nolan North, and Ashley Johnson that the studio wasn’t ruling out making a new Uncharted game. “We made Uncharted 4 and we haven’t made another Uncharted since, maybe one day we will, we’ll see.”

The Last of Us: Part II was released during that same year, and Naughty Dog would go on to develop The Last of Us: Part I for the PS5 and also remastered the second game for Sony’s current-generation console. Is it possible Uncharted 5 is still brewing at the Sony-owned developer? We’ll just have to wait and see.
