Clair Obscur Expedition 33 Studio Is Not Picking A Canon Ending: ‘We’ve Never Even Considered Really A True, Happy Ending’ – PlayStation Universe

Jennifer Svedberg-Yen, the writer on Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, has revealed during an interview that developer Sandfall Interactive isn’t picking a canon ending for the game, even though it’s currently working on a brand new game set in the same universe.

We are not going to pick one. Never say never, but there is no canon ending there. It is a Schrodinger’s ending,” she replied.

I think that was almost like an unspoken agreement. We never even considered really a true, happy ending. I think there was maybe a happier one possibly. You can see also in the way that the endings are edited, that one has a slightly more uplifting tone and one has a slightly darker tone. That was a choice that Guillaume made in terms of just having a little bit of shading there. But from my perspective, narratively, both are equally valid. Both are both good and bad. And it really just depends on whose perspective, whose good or whose happily-ever-after you are prioritizing.

Speaking in with EDGE magazine earlier in the year, the lead game designer for the critically acclaimed title revealed that the final boss proved a little easier than expected for players, as they had been grinding away on the various side quests in the game and had therefore levelled up their character.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was released in April 2025 for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S, and you can read our full review here.
