Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Take-Two, has revealed during an interview with The Game Business that he doesn’t feel the ongoing pricing issues regarding RAM will delay the upcoming PS6 and Project Helix.
When asked if he felt these problems will result in a delay for Sony and Microsoft’s next-generation systems, Zelnick simply replied, “We don’t see it affecting the delivery of consoles to the market.”
Earlier this year it was suggested by David Gibson, an analyst with MST Financial, that the PS6 could end up launching a lot later than initially believed due to Sony wanting to extend the PS5 lifecycle. The next month, Bloomberg reported that Sony’s next-generation system could be pushed to 2028 — 2029, although noted hardware tipster Moore’s Law Is Dead said earlier this month that PS6 is still likely targeting a 2027 window.
Sony hasn’t officially announced a successor to the PS5 yet, but we know the format holder has teamed with AMD for Project Amethyst, which is set to define its next-generation hardware. A video released last year featuring PS5 lead architect Mark Cerny and AMD’s SVP & GM of Computing and Graphics Group, Jack Huynh, highlighted a number of technical advancements to come out of this collaboration, including Universal Compression, which will certainly be featured in the PS6.
