Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that a new PS5 system software update is rolling out today that will implement the upgraded PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution), with titles including Crimson Desert, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Monster Hunter Wilds, and Silent Hill f taking advantage of the feature.
The format holder confirmed that its upgraded PSSR update will be rolled out in phases from today at 10.00PM PST, with users graining access to the patch in the coming days. Following the update there will be an option for ‘Enhanced PSSR Image Quality’ in the Video Output option under ‘Screen And Video’ on your PS5, which is located above ‘Enhanced Image Quality For PS4 Games.’
Sid Shuman, Sony Interactive Entertainment Senior Director of Content Communications, commented on the PlayStation Blog:
PSSR is an AI library that analyzes each frame pixel by pixel as it upscales game visuals. With this latest evolution, image reconstruction is more precise, motion stability is improved, and developers have greater flexibility to balance performance and fidelity on PS5 Pro. The upgraded PSSR represents another step in our commitment to evolving the PS5 Pro experience. Moving forward, most new PS5 Pro titles will launch with support for this enhanced PSSR, ensuring players continue to see improvements in image quality and performance.
As previously reported, Remedy Entertainment has confirmed that Alan Wake 2 and Control Ultimate Edition will be supporting the upgraded PSSR, with Resident Evil Requiem the first game to use the feature.
