Shares for Crimson Desert developer Pearl Abyss fell 28.96% earlier today in wake of disappointing first reviews of the open-world RPG, which launches on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S today.
Early scores for Crimson Desert haven’t been quite as impressive as the studio was probably hoping for, and at the time of writing has a Metacritic score of 78 out of 100. It seems that most of the reviews are for the PC version of the game. For Pearl Abyss, this saw it trading ₩46,600, which is down ₩19,000 from the previous session.
While we’ve still yet to offer our own thoughts on Crimson Desert (stay tuned for our review at a later date), one thing that has been confirmed is that the PS5 Pro runs the game like a dream. Digital Foundry put Crimson Desert through its paces recently, concluding that it offers a ‘phenomenal experience’ on Sony’s high-end system.
Crimson Desert takes place on the content of Pywel and follows Kliff, the leader of the Greymanes, as he suffers a major defeat the hands of the rivals the Black Bears, leaving his comrades dead or scattered across the land. Now having lost his family in all but name, Kliff embarks on a journey to reunite with the survivors of the Greymanes and rebuild the faction, in an adnveture that will see him forge alliances, encounter numerous dangers, and unearth mysterious factions.
Pywel itself is a sprawling landscape ripe with diverse locations, including lush green plaines and woods to arid deserts and rugged mountain regions. Meanwhile, bustling cities and hamlets are packed with residents that come from all walks of life, while landmarks, ancient ruins, and hidden treasures offer ample distractions on the open road.
