NetEase Reportedly Pulling Funding For Nagoshi Studio’s Gang Of Dragon – PlayStation Universe

A Bloomberg reports has claimed that NetEase is pulling its funding for Gang of Dragon, the debt title from ex-Yakuza series boss Toshihrio Nagoshi’s development team, Nagoshi Studio.

According to the site, Nagoshi Studio employees were told on Friday that NetEase is planning to cut its funding for Gang of Dragon, a decision it reportedly made after finding out the project required an additional seven billion yen ($44.4 million) to reach completion. Nagoshi-san is looking to secure additional funding for Gang of Dragon, but so far hasn’t had any luck.

Gang of Dragon was announced during The Game Awards in December 2025, and takes place in Kabukicho, the nightlife district of Shinjuku, Tokyo. Players follow Shin Ji-seong, portrayed by Ma Dong-seok, who is a high-ranking member of a Korean crime syndicate operating in Kabukicho. He soon becomes embroiled in an underworld conflict where he forges intense, human connections that force him to confront his own sense of purpose.

Nagoshi-san departed Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio in 2021 after leading the Yakuza franchise for many years, and established Nagoshi Studio the following year. Upon its formation, the studio revealed that its goal was to produce console titles with the aiming of releasing them worldwide.
