CI Games and Hexworks have released a new look at Lords of the Fallen II as part of its ongoing Lifting the Veil roundtable series. This latest trailer looks at how the development team have evolved the dual-realm mechanic in the original game into Umbral 2.0, and features Ryan Hill (CI Games Chief Creative Officer), James Lowe (Game Director), Daniel Regan (Lead Systems Designer), and Alex Harkin (Producer).
Speaking in a press release accompanying the video, Hill commented, “If Umbral was once the realm of the dead, it has since become the realm of the undead. Its former scab-like crust has been ripped away, revealing the raw flesh beneath—an open wound that seethes with newfound hunger.”
The evolved Umbral realm in Lords of the Fallen II will benefit from a complete reimagining, offering different environments, key storytelling moments, while diverse biomes offer players greater incentive to explore the world. Furthermore, Umbral is more influenced by player activity as opposed to a linear timer to increase the level of threat, which as a result feels more organic.
Lords of the Fallen II is currently in development for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S, and is pencilled in for a release at some point in 2026.
Back in December last year, CEO Games boss Marek Tyminski stated that the game is being shaped by player feedback. He also addressed a couple of fan questions on X, notably responding “Yes” in regards to whether they would be “attractive female characters, and will there be revealing outfits and armour for them?” Well, I guess there’s something for everyone!
