How to get Blipbug and evolutions Dottler and Orbeetle in Pokémon Go

Blipbug along with Dottler and Orbeetle, its evolutions, have debuted in Pokémon Go! These little bugs hail from the Galar region making them part of Gen 8. If you want to fill in their Pokédex entries, then you need to know how to get Blipbug and how to evolve Blipbug in Pokémon Go. I’ve also taken a look at the best Blipbug counters and weaknesses if you fancy battling it in a raid.

How to get Blipbug in Pokémon Go

Blipbug debuted during March 2026’s Bug Out event in Pokémon Go.

Here’s how to catch Blipbug during the Bug Out event:

I recommend focusing on defeating Blipbug in raids as it should be easy to defeat solo thanks to being a one-star raid boss. Its Bug-typing also makes it quite an easy Pokémon to counter. After all, one thing Pokémon Go definitely has is lots of strong Fire-types! While you’re doing this, you’ll also be naturally progressing through the Bug Out Go Pass. This will hopefully help you reach the rank where you’ll earn a Blipbug encounter, giving you the chance to earn some extra candy for this Pokémon.

No matter which option you choose to focus on, it’s a good idea to catch at least one Blipbug during this event as we don’t know how Blipbug will spawn after it ends. Considering it’s being released as a raid boss, you may have to wait until it enters raid rotation again and that could take a while! Catching at least one Blipbug will also ensure you can add its two evolutions to your Pokédex.

How to evolve Blipbug into Dottler and Orbeetle in Pokémon Go

You need 25 Blipbug Candy to evolve Blipbug into Dottler in Pokémon Go. After this, you need an additional 100 Blipbug Candy to evolve Dottler into Orbeetle.

It’s always a good idea to use Pinap Berries when catching a Blipbug to double the amount of catch candy you receive, especially since Blipbug is mainly available through raids. Though you can also earn additional Blipbug Candy by having it, or one of its evolutions, as your Pokémon buddy.

Blipbug Mega counters

Mega Charizard Y, Mega Rayquaza and Mega Diancie are the perfect choices for when it comes to using a Mega Evolution in this fight. Though, considering Blibpug is a one-star raid boss, you can easily get away without using a Mega Evolution.

Blipbug non-Mega counters

The best way to deal with Blipbug is to set it on fire, so, while you can use Flying or Rock-types, I recommend keeping things simple and going all in with Fire-types. Blacephalon, Reshiram and Heatran are your best shots for a quick win. If you don’t have these Pokémon though, then Volcarona, Delphox and Chandelure will also work wonders.

The Bug Out event has returned and this year it’s brought the release of Blipbug! Don’t forget about the Pressure Rising Special Research quest.

There’s a lot to do in Pokémon Go outside of the current event! From the Go Battle League, Remote Trading, PokéStop Showcase, Routes and Max Battles. Don’t forget to catch rare Pokémon while you’re at it.

  • Weather boosted CP (Rain) when being caught – 222 to 256 CP

Blipbug best moveset in Pokémon Go

My recommendation for Blipbug’s best moveset is Struggle Bug as a Fast Move and Struggle as a Charged Move. Though this isn’t a hard recommendation to make because Blipbug really doesn’t have many moves to choose from at all.

Are Blipbug, Dottler and Orbeetle shiny in Pokémon Go?

No, shiny Blipbug, Dottler and Orbeetle are not in Pokémon Go at the time of writing. This means you’ll need to wait a little longer if you want to add these shiny Pokémon to your collection.

The shiny Blipbug evolution line starts off rough. Real rough. It’s incredibly hard to notice the difference between regular and shiny Blipbug. Seriously they’re nearly identical until you notice that the yellow sections of its body have turned purple. Thankfully, despite my many sins, shiny Dottler and shiny Orbeetle are great improvements.

Shiny Dottler continues with the purple theme – now having a very fancy shell – though sadly its face does keep the same vivid shade of yellow. Shiny Orbeetle, however, is the crown jewel. Here we see the purple colour change come out in full force with its purple and black colouring making it look like a gothic ladybug.

Best of luck catching Blipbug in Pokémon Go!
