Solving the Duskwood Waterside Ruins puzzle is rather easy, so much so that there’s every chance you can complete it by accident. That said, the key for this puzzle is simply aligning five stones of the same colour on the checkers board in front of you. That means lining up either five White Stones or five Black Stones in a row.
If you know what you’re doing, this puzzle can be solved using just one move. On the board, there are four White Stones lined up with one another already, with a gap between them (shown above).
Simply pick up a White Stone from another row on the board and place it in the gap. Voila, you have five lined up White Stones, the puzzle is solved, and you can claim your reward: an Abyss Cresset.

The Duskwood Waterside Ruins puzzle is found in the north of The Witchwoods, and directly west of Hernand City (where Hernand Castle is located).
To quickly find this puzzle, take one of the western paths out of Hernand City and follow the river that heads to the northwest of the city (past Lioncrest Watchtower). If you continue following the rivers north and then west into The Witchwoods, you’ll soon arrive in an area that plasters your map with a huge question mark.
Hovering over this question mark explains that ‘A mysterious energy can be sensed in this area. There might be a secret hidden here, so it’s best not to ignore it.’ This means you’re standing beside an Ancient Ruins (in this instance, the Duskwood Waterside Ruins pictured on the above map from MapGenie) where you can solve a puzzle for a useful reward.
